The school was assembled by the London County Council and opened in 1958. It was initially constructed to accommodate close to 2,000 students. From the 1970s it acquired a reputation for examination results and lousy performance and in 1998 it was put under special measures.
In a effort to bring the school up to date, a new management team was set in place and the school formed a partnership with School Works, an initiative that uses layout to improve results and the approach of schools that are neglecting and better direction. A £30 million bundle resulted in a state-of-the-art building utilising an improved environment and the present constructions for the students The school was recently identified as one among the most famous state secondary schools in the nation.
