Established TV and Film Actor Ricky Low – Cast in Forthcoming Feature Film “Beautiful Boy”

“Beautiful Boy”, a feature film directed by Felix van Groeningen, included as  one of the “top 25 most anticipated films of 2018”, as listed on Imdb.com.

Ricky Low is a theatrical and commercial actor who has appeared in national commercials, such as commercials for Chase, and Apple. His first national television role was in the TV Series “Trauma” in 2009, where he played the role of Brandon. The production was directed by Dario Scardapane, “a very talented and encouraging director” to work with, according to Low. He was so encouraging, “he even hugged me one day after a scene because he was happy with my level of skill in acting and truly portraying a scene authentically.” Ricky Low booked his first big budget feature film earlier this year, which just wrapped production. The feature is entitled, “Beautiful Boy”, directed by by Felix van Groeningen; writers include David Sheff (memoire), Nic Sheff (memoire), screenplay by Luke Davies; and produced by Dede gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Brad Pitt. Ricky Low plays the role of Destiny, and according to Low, “I can’t go into much information about the character at this point, just be sure to see the movie!”. He continued, ‘What I can say is that Destiny in the feature film “Beautiful Boy” plays an important role to the main character’s son who struggles with drug addiction.” According to the IMDb.com page for the forthcoming production, it “Chronicle’s meth addiction and recovery through the eyes of a father who watches his son struggle with the disease.” In a recent interview Ricky Low discussed “how great” it was to be on set with some great people such as Timothee Chalamet, Kaitlyn Dever, as well as Steve Carell and many more, who are not only talented but “engaging and down to earth, cool people.”

 

Ricky Low was born and raised in the San Francisco area. His love for acting was kindled with big thanks to his mom. “My love for acting started around age 12, I watched a lot of Disney shows on the Disney Channel such as “Lizzie McGuire”, “Even Stevens”, and in later years, “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” came into the picture for me too.” He continued, “My mom got me into, and kept me in my acting classes so that I would stay out of trouble after school. It worked! I learned to adapt to the non stop classes, and developed a true love for acting.” Low also performed in numerous plays during both middle and high school. With the acting classes paying off, he won his first acting award in high school, and was nominated by his school peers, winning the award for the best in performance for acting ability and best in overall acting skills. In terms of his professional career as a TV/Film actor, one of his first major commercials that he booked as talent was for Chase.  Low summarized his experience on set for this commercial as a “wonderful experience”. Low states, “Everyone was super friendly. Ricky Low co-starred in the Chase commercial alongside NBA Golden State Warriors’ All Star Stephen Curry. Low continued,  “Stephen Curry is an awesome person to work with. We had time to talk quite a bit on set in between filming, and I informed him that we both have the same birth year, but I am 5 days older!”.

 

When asked where he draws his inspiration and who motivates him, Ricky Low stated, “those who motivate me include God The Father, and his son Jesus Christ, and my parents are a great inspiration to me.” He continued, “I am also inspired by people such as Tupac Shakur, Michael Jordan and Leonardo DiCaprio.” In terms of how he wishes to be uplifting to others, “I want to use my reach to show people that “the sky is the limit”, and you can do anything you want, if you set your mind to it.” Low’s passions in addition to acting include playing a lot of basketball in his free time. “He can most definitely hold his own on the court”, according to friends.
