Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Boeing, Cobham, Harris, FishEye Software, General Dynamics, Mercury Systems, Saab, Thales Group, and Ultra Electronics Group.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “One trend in the market is development of next-generation electronic jammer. Radar jamming is a crucial EW capability sought by defense agencies. Radar jammers are devices that can intentionally interfere with the radar receiver of enemies by saturating it with noise or false signals. The growing need for greater precision, speed, and directivity to counter evolving airborne threats have led vendors to develop sophisticated jamming technologies.”

According to the report, one driver in the market is growing demand for intelligence gathering. ISR activity is crucial for military missions, and a lot of devices and technological advancements have been introduced in this domain in recent years. In October 2016, the US tested ground robots at the MAGTF Integrated Experiment 2016. The experiment was a part of the Sea Dragon 2025 initiative that aims to test new concepts and technologies pertaining to cyber and EW. The ground robots, equipped with sensors and weapons, were sent up the ridge line of a valley to detect and locate enemies through their RF signatures and fire guided weapons as required. It was observed that the robots could accomplish the set reconnaissance and attack tasks.

Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is issues with emitter classification. The primary and crucial step for facilitating countermeasures in EW is emitter classification. ES devices receive signals from emitters such as radars, which send out EM signals. The intercepted EM signals, in turn, help detect and locate the emitter and estimate its frequency. The process of emitter classification has certain practical constraints. Firstly, the addition of new sensors makes it difficult for ES systems to intercept such signals, and ES receivers, in certain instances, are unable to distinguish between existing and new signals.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
About Electronic Warfare

Electronic warfare or EW is the act of deploying electromagnetic (EM) waves or directed energy to counter adversaries on the battleground. The concept involves controlling the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) to attack and defend oneself from the enemy. EM activities are not limited to radio frequencies; they include wavelengths of infrared, visible, and ultraviolet frequencies as well. EW can be launched from land, sea, air, or space as well as through manned or unmanned platforms.

Technavio’s analysts forecast the global electronic warfare market to grow at a CAGR of 4.07% during the period 2017-2021.
