F-18 PET/CT Impacts Treatment Plan for Prostate Cancer Patient: Study

The Founder of PET/CT of Las Colinas,Sheds Light over a Recent Study, Conducted In The UK

Irving, TX — An interim analysis recently conducted at a UK based diagnostic center shows that 61.2% patients had their treatment plan changed after the Fluciclovine (18F) PET/CT Imaging. The clinical trial evaluated the clinical impact of thef-18 positron emission tomography/computed tomography on men with suspected recurrence of prostate cancer.

According to the founder of the PET/CT of Las Colinas, the results of the trial can impact the cancer diagnosis and treatment in the US as well. “While Fluciclovine is an FDA approved agent, the F-18 PET/CT scan is not approved to be used in treatment planning in the US yet. The findings of the trial can actually change the scenario and improve the quality of cancer care for patients with recurrent prostate cancer.”

The patients enrolled in the trial were men who were considered candidates for salvage therapy. The trial also recorded how the treatment plan was changed after the results of the scan. The alterations included modification of their radiotherapy field for 40 percent of the patients while 25 percent had their salvage therapy changes to watchful waiting.

Due to the actionable information, fluciclovine (18F) PET/CT imaging technique might become an essential part of the standard diagnostic workup. “Hopefully, similar studies will be conducted in the US and the cumulative data will provide a clear, certain, and actionable plan”
