New Smartwatch Company is Making Wearable Fitness Tech More Accessible

Wearable fitness tech has been hailed as the solution to the growing obesity crisis that the world has been waiting for. With endorsements from athletes, celebrities, and even political bodies like the UK government, fitness gadgets that fit on your wrist have recently surged in popularity, with some officials even predicting that they will “define the world of sport and physical activity in the coming decade.”

Potential hyperbole aside, it seems that wearable fitness tech has, at the very least, proven to be capable of motivating an increasingly tech-reliant generation to get out and exercise. However, some have raised concerns about how accessible this tech is to the average consumer.

Most associate wearable fitness tech with leading names like ‘Fitbit’ and ‘Jawbone’ – brands which typically come with a high price tag. Flagship models from these brands can cost hundreds of dollars, which puts them out of reach for many consumers from low-income households. These brands have also dominated the wearable fitness tech market since their inception – but all that may be changing.

There are a number of competitors beginning to open up shop that offer wearable fitness tech for those with a smaller budget, and these competitors are quickly stealing market share from the leading brands.

One such brand is iTOUCH Wearables, who now offer consumers the option of buying bluetooth exercise watches which start at just $39.99.

After noticing a gap in the market for fitness watches under $100, the innovative brains behind iTOUCH Wearables began to develop their own. They eventually hit the market in 2016 after successfully creating their first product – the iTOUCH.

In clear evidence of the market need for an affordable fitness watch alternative, the iTOUCH quickly sold out across all retailers. Since then, they’ve expanded their product line to include the iTOUCH AIR and iTOUCH CURVE which come with added functionality and style.

It would be easy to think that the cheaper price tag must indicate that the iTOUCH cuts corners and doesn’t offer consumers the same features that more established brands do, but it looks like this isn’t true at all. In fact, the built-in iFITNESS activity tracker comes with all the important stuff that consumers want, like a step monitor, sleep tracker, and calorie counter.

Some would argue that it’s also every bit as stylish as the more expensive alternative brands, which makes it hard to justify the marked-up price of these brands for some consumers.

Ultimately, Fitbit and Jawbone will certainly still have their place in the wearable fitness tech market, as many consumers are willing to pay a little more for a more high-end, well-established product – and that’s fine. But for those that can’t afford these high-end brands, the iTOUCH provides a workable alternative.

As consumers, we can only hope that market demand continues to drive the prices of wearable fitness technology lower and lower, and that this will, hopefully, have a positive impact on the health of the modern tech-assisted generation.
